Go Beneath the Surface and Learn the Secrets of the Burial Rites of Ancient Egyptians

The Valley of the Kings is located hidden within the barren hills on the west bank of the Nile River near ancient Thebes which is the modern city of Luxor today. Within these hills lies a honeycomb of hidden tunnels leading to the tombs of the Pharaohs.

The most famous of these tombs was of course that of the boy king Tutankhamun because of the riches that Howard Carter found still inside when he opened the tomb in the 1920s. But although this is a famous tomb it is perhaps the smallest and most insignificant of all the tombs in the Valley of the Kings.  It lay hidden under the rubble of another tomb.   Nearly a 100 years since it was rediscovered it is still shrouded in mystery.  Recently scans were carried out which suggested that there were other chambers behind one of its painted walls.   Speculation in 2017 is rife that these chambers may be the tomb of his mother Nefertiti.

It is believed that the first Pharaoh to use the Valley of the Kings was the female Pharaoh Hatshepsut and her tomb is buried deep within the barren hills. Her memorial temple lies within the Valley and is on every tourist map for tours of Egypt. It is still being excavated and is a magical site to visit as the Sun is rising over the Valley of the Kings.

But as with all things Egyptian, the Valley of the Kings is steeped in mystery. Most of the treasure has been plundered since by tomb robbers back in antiquity but the paintings on the walls of the tombs have survived to tell the story of the Pharaohs.
