Day 2 – Giza Plateau, Sphinx, Great Pyramid
We begin our day very early with a special private and exclusive visit to the Giza Plateau, when the area is closed to the public so it will be just our group. As you reluctantly come alive, you will hear the incredible sounds of the entire city being called to prayer. Listen to the cacophony of sound– Feel the energy of the dawn spirits. We are off to discover some of the most awesome Wonders of the World to touch them and to feel them – the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of the Giza Plateau.
We study them and pay particular attention to the Sphinx. There is nothing more awe inspiring on any luxury tour of Egypt than to stand between the mighty paws of the Sphinx and gaze up at its wondrous face as the first rays of sunshine break over the horizon.
Sadly though this experience is not open to all who visit the Sphinx. But you will have this experience to treasure for the rest of your life on our Wisdom of Ancient Egypt luxury Tour of Egypt November 2018. Our guide, who is an encyclopaedia of Egyptology, will give us details of various controversial theories surrounding this amazing structure… After Sunrise we are back to the Mena House hotel for a fabulous buffet breakfast watched over by the towering awesome Great Pyramid of Giza.
This afternoon on your fabulous Wisdom of Ancient Egypt luxury tour of Egypt, we have a special private visit in the Great Pyramid where we will explore the chambers. The Great pyramid holds many surprises. We will be visiting the Queens Chamber before venturing up through the Grand Gallery to the iconic Kings Chamber where we will experience the power of the pyramid with the lights out.
After your visit to the Great Pyramid, you may like to continue the magic by taking an optional camel ride out into the desert to experience the stillness of the desert. This is a perfect way to end a once in a lifetime day. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 3 – Aswan Join Lake Nasser Cruise
After breakfast we check out of our hotel and fly to Aswan in the South of Egypt to join our Lake Nasser Cruise Boat.
Since prehistoric times, the Nile River provided the main trade route between the Mediterranean and Africa, with Nubia being the point of contact between the two worlds. For Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Arab civilizations, Nubia was a valued province and the corridor to Africa, the home of diverse cultures and political powers over thousands of years.
In the last century this region has witnessed two of the greatest engineering feats in modern history; the construction of the Aswan High Dam with the consequent creation of Lake Nasser, and the UNESCO project which saved the historical sites of Nubia threatened with permanent submersion beneath the waters of the Lake.
The total volume of the dam itself has been calculated at 17 times that of the Great Pyramid, and to build it 30,000 men worked round the clock for 10 years. The resulting reservoir extends 500 kilometres, some 380 of which lie in Egypt, with an average width of 10 kilometres.
When the decision was made in 1954 to build the dam, the evacuation of the Nubian community of over 100,000 people became an imminent reality. Meanwhile, urgent attention was required to safe-guard the Nubian monuments.
In 1960, UNESCO responded to appeals for assistance by launching the Nubian Campaign, an enterprise that involved the resources of some 54 nations over a 20-year period. The degree of ingenuity required to save the temples was a fitting tribute to the creative genius that accomplished their original construction. It was the first time in history that so many countries, individuals and disciplines united in an undertaking dedicated to the idea of a common cultural heritage and the universality of art.
Although the Nubian Campaign was officially completed in 1980, the Lake and its monuments remained isolated from tourism for over a decade. But now you too will explore this historic region of Southern Egypt for yourself.
When President Sisi took office as President of Egypt he took steps to finally create a new homeland for the Nubian people in the Aswan area. A new city and small villages are being built in the desert and channels have been dug to bring water from the Nile River. Solar power is being generated and new infrastructure in the form of new highways linking the area between Aswan and Abu Simbel. I am always amazed at the speed of progress being made every time I visit this very special part of Egypt.
Upon arrival at your luxury cruise boat, you will enjoy a welcome cocktail before enjoying lunch onboard. Time to chill out and relax. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 4 – Kalabsha / Wadi El Sebou
Today we continue to enjoy Lake Nasser and set sail to Kalabsha where we will visit the Kalabsha Temple before Sailing to Wadi Elsebou. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 5 – Wadi El Seboua Temple / Amada Temple
Today we continue sailing on Lake Nasser and our first port of call is Wadi el Seboua where we will explore the Wadi El Seboua Temple before sailing to Amada to visit the Amada Temple. We overnight on board at Amada. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 6 – Kasr Ibrim / Abu Simbel
We set sail very early this morning for Kasr Ibrim. This temple is not accessible by land but you can get a lovely view of the temple from the top sun deck. We leisurely sail on to Abu Simbel. Arriving at Abu Simbel is a truly majestic experience and takes you back to the days of Ramses II and his Queen Nefertari arriving on their Dhahabeya. Seeing these beautiful temples from the water is a truly magnificent experience and not to be missed and will be one of the many highlights of the Wisdom of Ancient Egypt Luxury Tour of Egypt.
Tonight you may like to take an optional visit to the sound and light show at Abu Simbel. This is one of the best sound and light shows in Egypt and gives you information on how they moved the Nubian temples in the 196os. It also gives you another perspective of Abu Simbel. We overnight onboard at Abu Simbel. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 7 – Abu Simbel / Aswan
We are up before the Sun this morning to explore the temples at Abu Simbel. These magnificent temples are both an ancient and a modern engineering marvel. The Abu Simbel temples are the symbols of an international salvage campaign in the 1960s to save these monuments from the rising waters of the mighty Aswan Dam.
These temples are truly magnificent and a very special moment is quietly watching the Sun rise on the lake and seeing the sunlight on the Temples. See the Temple for Ramses II and the beautiful temple for his beloved wife Nefertari. Our Egyptologist guide will assist us to see the full beauty of these temples through translating the images on the walls and giving us the history of the temples.
After breakfast we drive back to Aswan through the desert. This is an experience not to be missed. The Egyptian Government is regenerating this area for the Nubian people who were displaced in the 1960s with the building of the dam.
Aswan city is considered to be everyone’s favourite Egyptian city because it is beautiful and peaceful. It is called the “Pearl of Egypt”. We will check into our luxury Nile cruise ship.
Tonight we will visit the Nubian marketplace for some retail therapy and to meet the locals. This is your first opportunity to try bartering Egyptian style. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 8 – Aswan Isis Temple / Kom Ombo / Edfu
We rise very early this morning and take a short coach ride to the lakeshore and transfer to a motorboat. We travel on the Nile River to the island of Philae where we will visit the Philae Temple privately.
This island represents a fusion of three great civilizations – Egyptian, Greek and Roman. We will hear the legend of Isis and Osiris from our Egyptologist. This beautiful complex was moved in order to save it from rising water of the Dam. Like Abu Simbel and the temples along Lake Nasser the temple was meticulously dismantled and reassembled on a higher island not far from its original location. We will watch the sun rising over the lake before returning to the cruise boat for breakfast.
Kom Ombo Temple
As we eat breakfast we sail to Kom Ombo. There, we visit the only dual temple in Egypt.
This dramatic temple poised between the edge of the river and the encroaching desert sand, was dedicated to two gods – Sobek the crocodile god of strength, fortitude, fertility and rebirth, and Horus the hawk-headed son of Isis and Osiris.
We continue sailing to Edfu on our Wisdom of Ancient Egypt luxury tour of Egypt, where we will visit the Temple of Horus, one of the most beautifully preserved in Egypt.
Here, we follow the pattern of the hero’s quest as we learn how Horus and his followers (the Shemsu Hor) conquered chaos, and we see the sacred marriage of the king and queen as the embodiment of Horus and the goddess Hathor.
The side chambers of the temple show the complexity of the rites that include a healing chamber, a perfumery, and singer’s rooms. One chamber, called the House of Life, stored all of the sacred texts used in seasonal and daily rituals.
We spend the night onboard at Edfu . (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 9 – Sail to Luxor / Luxor Temple

The West Bank holds the tombs of the pharaohs that are inscribed with sacred transformative texts, including the books of knowing light and dark, the book of what is in the underworld, the book of caverns, and naming and taming the hours of the night. Here are the tombs of Ramses III and VII.
We will also see the mortuary temple of Ramses III at Medinet Habu and the Colossi of Memnon. Check into the 5 star Sonesta St George Hotel. This hotel is on the banks of the Nile River not far from Luxor Temple. The hotel has a fabulous day spa where you can spoil yourself with a massage or chill out in the steam room. Dashur is considered to be one of the Virgin Historical sites that still keeps its own powerful energy. There will be an opportunity to climb into the Red Pyramid for those who feel fit.
Enjoy a late lunch at a typical Egyptian restaurant in the countryside.
We then visit Sakkara to view the Old Kingdom pyramids that rise on the west bank near ancient Memphis. About, 2630 B.C. Imhotep, architect to King Djoser (Dynasty III), masterminded the Step Pyramid at Sakkara. The world’s oldest freestanding stone structure, this pyramid consists of six tiers atop a mastaba, faced with cut stone. We will explore the massive Sakkara complex with its numerous tombs and pyramids.
On the way back to Cairo, we visit one of the carpet schools where Egyptian children make handmade carpets out of their own imagination. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 15 – Old Cairo / Manial Palace
Enjoy your breakfast at Mena House. We venture downtown again today and explore old Cairo. This is a vibrant bustling city with history on every turn of your head. First we go to the Manial Palace.
The Manial Palace was built by Prince Mohammed Ali Tewfik (1875—1955), the uncle of King Farouk, between 1899 and 1929. He had it designed in a style integrating European Art Nouveau and Rococo with many traditional Islamic architecture styles including Ottoman, Moorish, Persian, creating inspired combinations in spatial design, architectural and interior decorations, and sumptuous materials. It housed his extensive art, furniture, clothing, silver, objects d’art collections, and medieval manuscripts dating back to the Middle Ages.
The Palace, furnishings, and Prince’s collections were given to the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities in 1955. The Manial Palace and estate are a public art and history museum, with historical gardens, and forested nature park. The Palace has been undergoing restoration for the last 10 years at a cost of approx 61 Million Egyptian Pounds. The most spectacular building within the palace complex is the gold throne room.
As well as the Palace, the gardens and fountains have also been restored. This gives an insight into how the ruling classes lived during the Ottoman Empire occupation of Egypt.
We have a late lunch in a lovely Ottoman restaurant in the Bazaar before taking a walking tour of old Cairo.
We will visit St. Sergi church where the holy family were supposedly hidden while they were in Egypt. We also visit the oldest Synagogue in Cairo and the oldest Mosque before we enjoy visiting one of the most amazing streets in Islamic Cairo. El-Moez Street is one of the oldest streets in Cairo, approximately one kilometre long it is an open air museum of old Cairo. It dates back to the Fatimid era and has almost all types of Islamic architecture decorated with Arabic calligraphy. It has recently been renovated and restored and it is a wonderful opportunity to see local craftspeople at work creating brassware plus old bookshops and many other shops that have been located in the same place for hundreds of years.
We finish our long day in downtown Cairo by going to a local theatre to enjoy local music and Sufi whirling (or Sufi spinning) is a form of Sama or physically active meditation which originated among Sufis, and which is still practiced by the Sufi Dervishes of the Mevlevi order.
It is a customary dance performed within the Sema, or worship ceremony, through which dervishes (also called semoazens) aim to reach the source of all perfection, or kemal. This is sought through abandoning one’s nafs, egos or personal desires, by listening to the music and spinning one’s body in repetitive circles, which has been seen as a symbolic imitation of planets in the Solar System orbiting the sun. As explained by Sufis.
Day 16, – Cairo Museum and Khan El Khalili Bazaar
Today we visit the Cairo Museum in downtown Cairo. Our Egyptologist will guide us through this famous museum with a collection of over 200,000 ancient Egyptian artefacts, dating back to 4,000 BC.
Visiting the museum early on the Wisdom of tour of Egypt, is an opportunity to see the statues and artefacts that originally were located in the temples, this paints a fuller picture when you go the temples. There you will experience first-hand the different periods of ancient Egypt and the individual artistic and architectural styles of each period.
One of the many highlights of the Cairo museum is the visit to the treasures of TutAnkhAmun. Stand before the breathtakingly beautiful gold death mask and marvel at the treasures that travelled with this boy king to the afterlife.
There will be time to explore the Cairo Museum on your own and to feel the sometimes eerie presence of energies from the past that still linger within the statues.
After our visit to the Cairo Museum, we will take some time out to visit the local shopping area for some retail therapy Egyptian style at the famous Khan el Khalili Bazaar. (Breakfast, Lunch)
